NSW Health Patient Survey

The NSW Health Patient Survey has been developed to gain information from patients and carers across NSW about their experiences with health care services. The annual survey is one of several strategies used by Greater Western Area Health Service (AHS) to gain a picture of patient and carer experience.

This initiative commenced in 2007 and each year over 200,000 surveys are mailed to patients and carers in NSW who accessed inpatient or non-inpatient services during the month of February.

Categories included in the survey are:

  • Overnight Inpatients
  • Day Only Inpatients
  • Paediatric Inpatients
  • Non-Admitted Emergency Patients
  • Adult Rehabilitation Inpatients
  • Outpatients
  • Community Health Clients
  • Cancer Inpatients and Outpatients

The surveys ask questions about the dimensions of care that research shows patients value including:

  • Access to care
  • Respect for patient values, preferences, and expressed needs
  • Coordination and integration of care
  • Information and education
  • Transition and continuity
  • Physical comfort
  • Emotional support and alleviation of fear and anxiety
  • Involvement of family and friends

Patients and carers responding to previous surveys have provided valuable information to assist Greater Western AHS in improving our services.

If you require assistance with the survey help is available through the following Hotline numbers.
